Summer in Samoens
Whilst the Alps are first and foremost associated with winter sports, the arrival of summer heralds a new dimension to the breathtaking scenery. Mountain streams sparkling in the sunshine, cows grazing on the upland pastures with their bells playing a disjointed symphony ...... the Samoens area offers a wonderful array of activities for the most demanding of visitors.
For years untold the Alps have attracted walkers from all over the world ..... drawn to the area by the incredible variety of views available from the mountain paths. For many visitors this activity is still the primary attraction but Samoens can offer families a wide range of activities to satisfy all age groups.
Hiking
Throughout the Giffre valley there are over 900km of well marked trails of different lengths. An excellent handbook shows 50 of the best walks with precise maps and routes.
Mountain Biking
Over 600km of marked routes are now available in the Samoens area. Several village hire shops offer cycles.
Canoeing & Rafting
Both sports are practised on the Giffre river. Safety equipment is provided by the operators.
Horse Riding
An excellent riding centre exists at Sixt during summer months. A picturesque route takes riders past the Cascades waterfall on a leisurely two hour circuit.
Paragliding
For the more adventurous, this sport is highly popular and several companies offer the chance to float gently down to a soft landing in Samoens!
Sightseeing
Many summer visitors take the opportunity to explore this beautiful region and we recommend visits to Annecy, Yvoire, Chamonix and Geneva. Locally ..... don't miss the Cascade du Rouget and, for the youngsters, the Indiana Parc.
Climate
Many first time summer visitors do not realise how high the temperatures can reach in the Alps ..... frequently over 30 degrees Celsius! The thin air often makes it seem hotter but it is a wonderful climate and, of course, our clients have a pool and hot tub to reduce the effects.
